Project: Open Source Robotics Tool Kit (OSRTK)
Step: 001 – Operating system installation

Ok, here we go.  The first thing you will need is an operating system. You will need gather the following:

  1. A blank CD ROM
  2. A functional computer with operating system, CD ROM burner, high speed Internet connection and some CD ROM burning software.  Could be a PC, MAC or Linux machine.
  3. A host computer to build your development system, can be a Intel PC, AMD PC or Intel MAC.


  • When your download completes, burn the Ubuntu ISO file onto your CD ROM.

  • Power up the computer that you intend to make your development machine and enter the BIOS, make sure your machine is set up to boot from the CD ROM.

  • Insert your Ubuntu CD into the machine and reboot, you should then be presented with the option to install, don't afraid its quite simple and painless.

Finish

At this point you should have a fresh Ubuntu installation with a few basic applications.  please refrain form making changes to your Ubuntu installation until you complete all of the steps in the tutorial.  click the link below to move on to the next step.
