TurboMouse
Just playing around with my Cygnal 8051 development kit. This is a very basic robot, 2 wheels, and some reflective IR sensors, configured for line following And maze navigation. As it turned out, I like this new Cygnal part very much; I will most likely be using it on future robots. I also like the idea of using a PDA as the master controller; this makes it very easy to write software for it on the fly. I decided to enter this robot in RSSC line following and wall following competitions. I started this robot 4 days prior to the meet, it was pretty funny, I was still trying to work on the software right up until the very minute the competition started. Lack of sleep and not enough time to fully work on the software, not to mention the lack white surfaces with black lines stuck on them really hindered my ability to compete well. My robots performance was horrible in the line following competition, and non-existing in the wall following. Which was another funny tell, as I was so tired after staying up all night to finish, I forgot to remove the resistor pack (if you look closely at the photo of the right side you can see this) for the wall following portion of the meet. This resistor option allowed me to change the characteristics of the IR sensors from line following to proximity detection . Better luck next year!!!!
